The Clarke "Creating Community Futures" Educational Foundation

THE SETTLOR AND FOUNDER:
Walter George Clarke of I5 Albion Ave, Paddington, NSW 2021, wishes to settle an amount of $25,000 on this foundation.

OBJECTS

  1. To help people in a place or an urban community within Australia to:
    1. research imagine, describe and specify a desired future character for that place;
  2. evolve and adjust, in the light of feedback of the results of previous actions. new strategies and future actions to modify their environment;
  3. participate more effectively in community and governmental processes to shape the future of their local and wider communities;
  4. more skilfully to evolve and manage strategies for community futures so as to reduce the costs, traumas and delays of political and legal conflicts over project planning and assessment;
  5. To conserve the totality of the 'George Clarke Archives' including:
  6. the intellectual and philosophical writings which guided Clarke to think and act as he did from 1954 to 2004:
  7. his working papers, electronic files, writings, reports, drawings, photographic, video and oral recordings, reportage, comments, discussions and controversies relating to Clarke's personal, professional and community activities over the period 1954-2044;
  8. his writings published under/over the names and titles of governments, authorities, professional institutes, entrepreneurs, developers, community groups and leaders, politicians and / or public servants at all levels around Australia and the world, written by Clarke acting as advisor, consultant or editor to the official body, personage or publication;
  9. To select from the Clarke Archives, one complete set of items, in such form that the State Library of New South Wales and/or the National Library of Australia will accept and to take all necessary steps to have such set gifted to and accepted by one or both of the aforementioned libraries;
  10. To compile from duplicate copies in the Clarke Archives, additional part-sets of the documents and gift such part-sets to such other persons, libraries or institutions as the Trustees may see fit;
  11. To facilitate public understanding of the work carried out by Clarke between I954-2004 throughout Australia in creating community futures, by informing the public, community, professional. academic and government institutions, entrepreneurs, developers, and independent think tanks, ofthe existence and availability of the Clarke Archives, so as to stimulate people to reassess much currently conventional popular urban history;
  12. To mount and maintain relevant website(s) on the Internet, including electronic files created from paper, visual and oral records in the Clarke Archives; Community Futures Foundation 09.02.05
  13. To facilitate and assist in the research and publication of accounts of Clarke's work , and/or of a biography of Clarke;
  14. To seek, receive, invest, use and/or disburse donations ofmoney or services, as the Trustees may from time to time see fit, for any purpose which the Trustees deem in accord with the objects of the Trust and/or which could encourage community study and understanding of urban or regional communities, in accord with the standards of professional integrity and community participation in urban, regional and research, planning, design and cultural change demonstrated by George Clarke from 1954 to 2004, as indicated by the materials in the Clarke Archives.

This Deed appoints as Trustees the following:-

  1. Christopher Jay
    Journalist
  2. Peter Kelly
    Building Specifications Pty Ltd
  3. Krystyna Luczak, Executive Chairperson of the Trustees
    Urban Planning Consultant

Quorum to be two present and voting. If necessary, decisions by vote, with the Chairperson having a casting vote in the case of a tie. The Settlor includes in the Deed the appointment of Krystyna Luczak, Christopher Jay and Peter Kelly as Trustees empowered to select and appoint new and/or additional Trustees. Advisors who in the opinion of the Trustees, are able to give relevant advice and assistance, shall be appointed from time to time by the Trustees. Advisors shall initially consist of the following persons:

Note: Status is to be sought as either an educational, cultural, or charitable organisation eligible for donations to be income tax deductible.

The settlor, George Clarke and the Trustees hereon sign their names in acknowledgement that they will dutifully undertake to pursue the objects of this trust.
